R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Members of the 1955 graduating class of I. M.
Terrell High School held their 50-year class reunion on October 22,
2005, in Fort Worth; and
WHEREAS, The men and women who compose this class have
pursued a wide range of careers throughout the past half-century,
and the events of their lives have undoubtedly been shaped by the
memorable experiences that they shared during the pivotal years of
their youth spent at I. M. Terrell; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1885 at Morning Chapel C.M.E. Church,
the school was originally the only high school open to African
American students in the area; after closing in 1972, during
integration, it reopened as an elementary school and today operates
under the leadership of principal Vera Brooks, who is also a member
of the Class of 1955; and
WHEREAS, Given a sound academic foundation and taught the
fundamental importance of perseverance, the graduates of I. M.
Terrell have made their way in the world with resourcefulness and
determination, and it is altogether fitting that they be honored
for their collective accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 50th
reunion of the I. M. Terrell High School Class of 1955 and
congratulate its members on their many significant achievements.
