H.R. No. 74 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The golden wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans is truly a memorable event, and Shirley and George Haley of Austin will commemorate the occasion on June 2, 2006; and WHEREAS, United in matrimony at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, George Kirby Haley and the former Shirley Dean Knibbe have nurtured an enduring relationship that has been blessed with three great children, Kirby Dean Haley, William Scott Haley, and Tamara Marie Haley Phillips, and they have shared in the joy of welcoming into their family two cherished grandchildren, Joshua Tyler Phillips and Haley Marie Phillips; and WHEREAS, A U.S. Navy carrier pilot for 25 years, Mr. Haley achieved the rank of commander and flew numerous missions in Vietnam; after retiring from the service, he was an engineer at The University of Texas at Austin for 19 years; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Haley adeptly balanced the responsibilities of being an exceptional mother and military wife who was both a counselor and surrogate mother to numerous young military wives; she then worked for the state in a variety of capacities, including serving as chief of staff for Texas State Representative Sue Palmer; and WHEREAS, Valued members of the community, the Haleys have continued to serve their country in the U.S. Navy League and American Legion as well as through extensive volunteerism in their church; moreover, the couple are loyal supporters of their alma mater and they hold a special place in their hearts for the football team because they had their first date at a Longhorn game; and WHEREAS, For more than half a century, Mr. and Mrs. Haley have built a strong bond of love and mutual respect, filling each other's lives with many happy times and special family memories, and it is a pleasure to honor them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate George and Shirley Haley on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Haley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
