R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Specialist Thomas Gabriel Cantu has performed
valiant service in Iraq as a member of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, A 2003 graduate of Alice High School, Specialist
Cantu enlisted in the armed forces a few months after receiving his
diploma; he is based at Fort Stewart, near Savannah, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Cantu was deployed to Iraq on January 5,
2005, and during his year-long tour of duty in that country, he
handled assignments relating to security and police patrols;
notwithstanding the hazardous nature of his work, he approached his
mission with the utmost dedication and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, This courageous young Texan is the son of Humberto
and Margarita Cantu, the brother of Chelsea Cantu and Humberto
Cantu, Jr., and the grandson of Sara Cantu and Frances Martinez; and
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to Specialist Cantu
and to all the country's military personnel, for they are called on
in wartime to bear the heaviest of burdens and to render sacrifice
that is truly beyond measure; and
WHEREAS, Through his unwavering devotion to duty, honor, and
this nation, Specialist Cantu embodies the highest ideals of the
United States armed forces, and it is indeed a privilege to
recognize him at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Specialist Thomas
Gabriel Cantu for his service in Iraq and extend to him deepest
appreciation for his steadfast efforts; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Specialist Cantu as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
