R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The untimely and tragic death of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Oscar Rodriguez on March 10, 2006, at the age of 27, has brought a great loss to all who were privileged to know this exceptional young man; and WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Rodriguez graduated from A. C. Jones High School in Beeville before joining the Army in 1996; assigned to the 25th Infantry Division's First Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, he served a tour of duty in Iraq and was training for redeployment at the time of his passing; and WHEREAS, Throughout his military career, Staff Sergeant Rodriguez earned the respect and admiration of peers and commanding officers alike for the exemplary leadership and technical skills he displayed in every one of his diverse assignments; and WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men and women whose love of country leads them to military service, yet the death of this exemplary soldier is a reminder that the preservation of freedom is not without great cost; the passing of Staff Sergeant Rodriguez is a tremendous loss to his family, friends, and fellow soldiers, and his sacrifice in service of this country will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Oscar Raul Rodriguez and extend deepest sympathy to his family: to his wife, Stephanie A. Rodriguez; to his son, Jacob Conner Rodriguez; to his mother, Janie Guerrero Edwards; to his father, Raul C. Rodriguez, Jr., and his wife, Nova; to his brother, Carlos Rodriguez; to his sisters, Victoria Alicia Rodriguez, Pamela Alicia Rodriguez, and Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez; to his grandmothers, Elda Guerrero and Eva C. Rodriguez; and to all his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Staff Sergeant Oscar Rodriguez.
