R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Carl Gonzales II of Midland earned top honors for
his research project at The University of Texas System Louis Stokes
Alliance for Minority Participation conference in Dallas; and
WHEREAS, LSAMP is a National Science Foundation program
coordinated through The UT System that focuses on increasing
minority student participation in science technology, engineering,
and mathematics programs; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Gonzales, a senior chemistry and pre-medicine
major at UT-Permian Basin, won first place for his project, "Using a
Bacterial Heme Transport System of Over Produce Hemoglobin for Use
as a Blood Substitute"; and
WHEREAS, This notable young Texan is the son of Carl and
Eduvina Gonzales and a 2002 graduate of Crane High School; a valued
member of the Xi Zeta chapter of the Gamma Sigma Epsilon National
Chemistry Honor Society, he previously distinguished himself
through his participation at the 2005 American Chemical Society
National Meeting, where he presented research in organic chemistry
and chemical engineering and accepted an award on behalf of the
organization's student-affiliated chapter, which he served as
president; and
WHEREAS, A source of pride and inspiration to his school,
family, and community, Carl Gonzales may undoubtedly look forward
to further academic achievement in his field as well as a successful
professional career; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Carl Gonzales
II on earning first place at The University of Texas System Louis
Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation conference and extend to
him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Gonzales as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
