H.R. No. 101
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The world has lost a beloved entertainer with the
death of internationally renowned Italian tenor Enzo Stuarti, who
died at his home in Midland on December 16, 2005, at the age of 86;
and
WHEREAS, Born Lorenzo Scapone on March 3, 1919, in Rome, this
esteemed man emigrated to America in 1934 to join his family in New
Jersey; he served his new country as a member of the U.S. Merchant
Marines during World War II before moving back to Italy; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stuarti returned to the United States in 1951
and began a celebrated career in entertainment, performing at
Carnegie Hall, in Broadway musicals, and on television, releasing
albums, and singing with orchestras and in clubs in both New York
and Las Vegas; and
WHEREAS, His stage credits include Around the World in 80
Days, South Pacific, and Kiss Me Kate, to name but a few, and his
recordings range from pop music to opera; moreover, he earned
national recognition as a regular guest on The Ed Sullivan Show and
The Tonight Show, as well as through his popular TV commercials for
Ragu spaghetti sauce, delivering his well-known catch phrase,
"That's a nice"; in 2004, Mr. Stuarti retired to Midland, the
hometown of his wife, Thelma; and
WHEREAS, Enzo Stuarti will long be remembered for the talent
that he shared with countless audiences for decades, and his legacy
lives on in the work that he leaves behind that will surely continue
to delight listeners for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the
life of Enzo Stuarti and extend deepest sympathy to the members of
his family: to his wife, Thelma Donohoo Stuarti; to his children,
Larry Stuart and Andrea Leib; to his three grandchildren; and to all
who mourn the passing of this gifted man; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Enzo
Stuarti.
