H.R. No. 149


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Kerr County marked the community's first 150 years of growth and accomplishment with a sesquicentennial celebration for Kerr County Days held from April 7 to 9, 2006; and WHEREAS, Settled by Kentucky native Joshua D. Brown in 1846, Kerr County was officially created by the 6th Texas Legislature in January 1856; and WHEREAS, The area was named in honor of Major James Kerr, a veteran of the War of 1812 and the Battle of San Jacinto; during the period of the Republic, Major Kerr represented Jackson County in the House of the Third Congress and introduced anti-dueling legislation as well as a bill to make Austin the state capital; and WHEREAS, A Central Texas treasure, Kerr County is situated in the ruggedly beautiful Hill Country, where picturesque bluffs, lakes, and spring-fed streams provide an idyllic location for camping, hunting, fishing, and sightseeing; and WHEREAS, The county seat of Kerrville is home to the state arts and crafts show and has garnered national attention with the Kerrville Folk Festival, a celebration of music that has been held annually since 1972; and WHEREAS, Possessing a distinctive heritage and a bright and promising future, Kerr County continues to contribute to the rich tapestry that is the Lone Star State, and it is indeed a pleasure to join its many fine residents in recognizing the milestone of the county's sesquicentennial; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Kerr County and the April 7-9, 2006, Kerr County Days.
