R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The tennis team of Highland Park High School in Dallas took home its third consecutive University Interscholastic League Class 4A State Championship for team tennis on November 5, 2005; and WHEREAS, The Highland Park team capped a brilliant season by overcoming a strong group of players from New Braunfels High School in the final match, winning 10-3; and WHEREAS, The 2005 team carried forward a proud tennis tradition at Highland Park, which is garnering a reputation as a powerhouse in the sport; the school's on-court excellence has resulted in 70 consecutive victories in team dual matches over the past three years, while its senior class dual match record for the past four seasons now stands at 91 wins and just one loss; and WHEREAS, In compiling their remarkable string of wins and capturing the 2005 state title, the Scots called on the skills of each member of their team; the girls' roster is made up of Paige Bethmann, Laurie Davis, Meredith Hightower, Natalie Leitch, Kellye McDade, Katelyn McKenzie, Jennifer Meacham, Taylor Schreimann, Anna Stainback, Morgan Staub, Lauren Toledo, and Jacqueline Wasem; the boys' lineup consists of Robert Bruner, Alexander de Chatellus, Charlie Dunn, Ryan Frater, Henry Levin, Matt Mosca, Eric Olson, Casey Powers, Eric Riepen, Max Schellenberg, Max Stevens, Tyler Tarnasky, and Owen Wilson; and WHEREAS, This accomplished team is guided by head coach Dan Holden and assistant head coach Tylir Jimenez, who have provided a solid grounding in tennis fundamentals while schooling the players in the determination and composure needed to win; and WHEREAS, In securing the state championship, the Scots demonstrated a dazzling combination of talent, tenacity, and teamwork, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize the accomplishments of this dedicated group of young athletes; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Highland Park High School tennis team for winning the UIL Class 4A State Championship for team tennis and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
