R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bishop J. W. Macklin has brought hope and spiritual inspiration to countless people throughout his ministerial career, and congregants of the Starlight District in Fort Worth may count themselves among those fortunate enough to benefit from his message of faith; and WHEREAS, Pastor of the Glad Tidings Church of God in Christ in Hayward, California, a congregation he organized in 1978, Bishop Macklin has been highly instrumental in the growth of the church, which today numbers 1,800 members; moreover, congregants reach out to the global community through some 40 ministries; and WHEREAS, In addition to leading his church, Bishop Macklin chaired the Auxiliaries in Ministry Convention for more than a decade, sharing his vision and guidance with thousands of delegates worldwide who represented national departments focused on youth, music, Sunday school, missions, and evangelism; and WHEREAS, He attained the level of bishop in 1998, and later accepted an episcopal appointment to provide strategic leadership to more than 55 churches; in 2004, he received the church's highest honor with his election to the general board of the Church of God in Christ; and WHEREAS, This dedicated man of faith positively affects those outside his congregation by participating in seminars and conferences, authoring publications, and overseeing the work of the Northern California Community Development Corporation, which he established in 1992; one of that organization's most renowned successes is the transformation of the South Hayward community through economic development, education, and neighborhood revitalization; and WHEREAS, Bishop Macklin has offered guidance and compassion to his parishioners and has helped people throughout the world to better their lives, and he truly merits special recognition for his myriad achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Bishop J. W. Macklin for his many good works in behalf of his fellowman and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Bishop Macklin as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
