H.R. No. 163


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to an end with the passing of Lyndon Lowell Olson, Sr., of Waco on December 20, 2005, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Born on January 22, 1925, this Waco native attended John Tarleton Military Institute after graduating from Waco High School in 1942; he enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and went on to attain the rank of captain before returning to his hometown to resume his studies at Baylor University; graduating from Baylor Law School in 1950, he was appointed city attorney for Waco at the age of 27; and WHEREAS, After serving in that capacity for four years, Mr. Olson joined the firm of Bryan, Maxwell, Wilson and Olson as a partner; the firm later became Olson and Olson, when he went into partnership with his son, Charles; engaged in the private practice of law for 55 years, Mr. Olson was of counsel with the law firm of Haley & Olson at the time of his passing; moreover, he was the incorporating attorney for the City of Bellmead and served as its city attorney for more than 50 years; and WHEREAS, In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Olson made significant contributions to his community through his work as chair of the Brazos River Authority and as president of the Waco School Board, the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, and the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association; he also served on the board of the Salvation Army and was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; and WHEREAS, A lifelong congregant of Central Presbyterian Church, Mr. Olson taught the men's Sunday school class for 46 years and served as chair of the board of deacons and the board of trustees and as a ruling elder; an Eagle Scout at the church in his youth, he reestablished Troop No. 21 in the 1950s and served as its scoutmaster; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Olson took great delight in spending time with his family at their ranch on the Bosque River, and he enthusiastically shared that joy with innumerable friends and visitors through the years; and WHEREAS, Lyn Olson was a wise and compassionate gentleman who leaves behind a legacy of good works that will continue to benefit his fellow Texans for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Lyndon Lowell Olson, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Mary Frances McLaughlin Olson; to his sons, Lyndon Lowell Olson, Jr., and his wife, Kay, and Charles Dale Olson, and his wife, Kris; to his granddaughters, Elisabeth Lial Olson and Anne Kristine Olson; to his brother, William A. Olson, and his wife, Virginia; to his sister-in-law, Rosemyrtle McLaughlin; to his nieces and nephews, Suzanne Olson Waldrep, William A. Olson, Jr., John F. Olson, and Judy Olson Dell'Osso; to his executive secretary of more than 50 years, Bunny Allison, and her husband, Dean; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lyndon Lowell Olson, Sr. Dunnam ______________________________ Speaker of the House I certify that H.R.
