R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 2006 retirement of Steve Steadham from his position as principal of Rains High School in Emory brings to a close an exceptional career in education that has spanned three and a half decades; and WHEREAS, A graduate of East Texas State University, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in biology and health and physical education and his master's degree in educational administration, Mr. Steadham also holds superintendent, mid-management administrator, secondary biology, and health and physical education certificates; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan began his noted career in 1970 as a science teacher and coach with Terrell ISD; he taught science with Wills Point ISD and served Edgewood ISD from 1978 to 1996, first as a science teacher and later as a high school principal for more than 10 years; he then accepted principal responsibilities with Eustace ISD for two school years before taking the helm at Rains High School in 1999; and WHEREAS, As principal, Mr. Steadham has deftly handled myriad duties, and the school has thrived under his leadership; TAAS scores have improved significantly, and the school earned exemplary campus status for two years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Steadham has given generously of his time and talents to professional and civic organizations; he has served as the Region VII director of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and worked with the Texas Schools to Work Consortium and the District VII Tech Prep Consortium and Administrators' Association, to name but a few; and WHEREAS, Steve Steadham may reflect on his accomplished career with great pride, knowing that his years of service to the youth of the Lone Star State have made a positive difference in the lives of countless individuals; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Steve Steadham on the occasion of his retirement as principal of Rains High School and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Steadham as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
