R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Those Texans who dedicate themselves to public service are truly deserving of the admiration and gratitude of their fellow citizens, and Mayor Euline Brock of Denton is one such individual; and WHEREAS, First elected in 2000, Mayor Brock brought extensive experience in civic government to the office, having previously served on the Denton City Council, where she acted as mayor pro tem for four years and was the council's representative to the city's development policy, land use planning, and joint tax abatement committees; and WHEREAS, During her three-term tenure as mayor, she has further distinguished herself on the city council's agenda, audit, investment, mobility, and hotel occupancy tax committees, as well as on the committee on the environment; and WHEREAS, Highly regarded by her colleagues, Mayor Brock is president of Metroplex Mayors, in which capacity she has promoted development of a regional transit system and organized the first-ever joint meeting of that organization and the Tarrant County Mayors Council; moreover, she serves on the executive boards of the North Texas Commission and the North Central Texas Council of Governments, which recognized her for her outstanding work with the William J. Pitstick Regional Cooperation Award; and WHEREAS, The U.S. Conference of Mayors appointed this dedicated civic leader to two standing committees, the energy and environment committee and the arts, parks, recreation, and sports committee, as well as the Sustainable Development Task Force; and WHEREAS, Her activities also extend beyond city government to encompass her service as president of the Denton Rotary Club and on the boards of the Denton Humanitarian Association, HOPE, Inc., and the University of North Texas Foundation; in addition, she is a founder of the Denton Interracial Fellowship and is the founder and coordinator of the Denton Afro-American Scholarship, Inc.; and WHEREAS, Before embarking on her tenure in public office, Mayor Brock earned a master's degree in English literature from The University of Texas and a doctorate in history from the University of North Texas, and she has served on the faculty at Texas Woman's University, Tarrant County College, the University of North Texas, and the University of Maryland; and WHEREAS, Mayor Brock's leadership and profound commitment to the greater good have benefited not only the citizens of Denton but also Texans throughout the Metroplex area, and we join them in commending this remarkable public servant; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Euline Brock for her outstanding tenure as mayor of Denton and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor Brock as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
