                                                                  H.R. No. 232



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, With her donation of bone marrow and stem cells, 
Shanna Ann Lane of Rosharon has given life-saving assistance to two 
individuals who were gravely ill; and
	WHEREAS, At the age of 18, this remarkable young woman 
completed the process to become listed in the National Marrow Donor 
Program registry, and a year later she was notified of her possible 
match with a young leukemia patient; additional testing showed her 
to be a near-perfect match, and on December 11, 2003, she donated 
bone marrow, enabling a Pennsylvania youth to recover from the 
disease; and
	WHEREAS, Two years later, Ms. Lane was contacted again, this 
time as a match for someone in need of stem cells; over the course of 
five days in December 2005, she underwent procedures to prepare for 
and have the stem cells extracted; the recipient is said to be doing 
better and Ms. Lane is looking forward to one day communicating with 
him; and
	WHEREAS, Rarely does one encounter such selfless generosity 
as that of Shanna Lane, whose donation of bone marrow and stem cells 
answered the most personal hopes of two individuals and their 
families; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Shanna Ann Lane for 
her noble actions and commend her for the remarkable example she has 
set for others as a bone marrow and stem cell donor; and, be it 
further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Ms. Lane as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
