H.R. No. 237



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Paul, Linda, and Carol Luckey, co-owners of Rockdale 
Memorial Company, were awarded the prestigious Director's Citation 
from the Department of Public Safety on November 22, 2005, for their 
selfless contributions in the effort to honor fallen DPS officers; 
and
	WHEREAS, For more than a decade, stone monuments have been 
placed at sites where DPS officers were killed in the line of duty; 
Rick Metcalf initiated the program after being deeply saddened by 
the fatal roadside shooting of a state trooper; his desire to pay 
tribute to the officer led him to Rockdale Memorial, where with Paul 
Luckey's expert guidance, he was able to create an appropriate 
marker; the company provided the service for the cost of materials 
alone; and
	WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Metcalf, and later his brother, 
Don, continued to rely on Rockdale Memorial for suitable and 
attractive markers; the Luckey family came through every time, 
eventually donating the full cost of the monuments; today, some 78 
markers are installed at sites across the state, and dedication 
ceremonies pay honor to the deceased and offer comfort to their 
families and friends; and
	WHEREAS, Rockdale Memorial Company is a shining example of 
the power of Texas businesses to positively impact the community, 
and the Luckey family is truly deserving of this notable honor; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Paul, Linda, 
and Carol Luckey on their receipt of the Director's Citation from 
the Department of Public Safety and extend to the Luckey family and 
all those associated with Rockdale Memorial Company sincere and 
deep appreciation for their faithful generosity to those who 
sacrifice their own safety to protect ours; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for the Luckeys as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
