H.R. No. 243


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Leticia Rivera of San Antonio on April 16, 2006, at the age of 51, has brought a profoundly felt loss to the family members and many friends of this cherished wife and mother; and WHEREAS, Born to Oscar and Emma Rendon in Eagle Pass on August 2, 1954, Mrs. Rivera was an educator and administrator with the Harlandale Independent School District for two decades; and WHEREAS, Her notable tenure with the district began in 1986; she was a teacher with Rayburn Elementary and then principal of the Wietzel Center; she accepted principal responsibilities of Scheh Elementary School in 1996 and ably served the campus until the time of her passing; under her leadership, the school earned Recognized status for four consecutive years; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Rivera served her professional and civic communities as a member of a number of organizations, and in recognition of her achievements, she was named Region 20 Principal of the Year for the 2004-2005 school year and selected as the grand marshal for the Harlandale Cultural Arts Parade in 2004; and WHEREAS, Those who knew Leticia Rivera will long remember her endless love of her family, her students, and her community; although her time on earth was far too short, the legacy she leaves behind will long endure in the hearts of the countless individuals whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Leticia Rivera and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband of 25 years, Joe Rivera; to her daughter, Leticia Jo Rivera; to her son, Joe Rivera, Jr.; to her mother, Emma Rendon; to her sister, Aracely R. Moncada and her husband, George; to her brothers, Alejandro Rendon and his wife, Estela, Oscar Rendon and his wife, Edna, Hector Rendon and his wife, Norma, and Rolando Rendon and his wife, Doris; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Leticia Rivera.
