R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After a courageous and inspirational battle with
cancer, Dr. L. Shannon Holloway, Jr., of Abilene passed away on
April 21, 2006, at the age of 66; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding leader in the field of medicine, Dr.
Holloway was one of the first faculty members of the newly
established Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of
Medicine in 1972; he authored more than two dozen scientific
publications and taught courses in physiology and biochemistry to
many of his future physician colleagues in Abilene; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan earned his medical degree in
1976 and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery four years
later; he practiced orthopedic surgery for 25 years, served as
chief of staff of Hendrick Medical Center, and officiated as team
physician for the football teams of Abilene Christian University,
Hardin-Simmons University, and McMurry University, as well as those
of numerous area high schools; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Holloway gave generously of his
time and talents to a host of community organizations, serving on
numerous boards and receiving many accolades for his distinguished
service; and
WHEREAS, Committed to his faith, his friends, and his family,
Shannon Holloway possessed a dynamic and effervescent personality
and a true zest for life that inspired all who knew him to strive
toward their full potential; although he will be sorely missed, the
legacy of strength and kindness that he leaves behind will long live
on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Dr. L. Shannon Holloway, Jr., and extend sincere sympathy to the
members of his family: to his loving wife, Janie Holloway; to his
children and their spouses, Bill and Suzanne Holloway, Laura and
Mike Walsh, Julie and Ben Davis, Lisa and Mike Monschke, and Susan
and Kurt Daum; to his 10 grandchildren; to his two brothers and
their families; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Shannon
Holloway.
