R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The community of Denison lost one of its most admired citizens with the passing of David Bayless, Sr., on December 23, 2005, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Born to Jim Tom and Mattye Bayless in Denton on July 22, 1925, this esteemed Texan graduated from the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in 1945 and the University of North Texas in 1947; he bravely served his country during the Korean War and moved to Denison in 1959; and WHEREAS, Mr. Bayless distinguished himself professionally as the chair of the Bayless-Hall Insurance Company board and gave generously of his time and talents to a host of civic organizations, including the United Way, the Denison Rotary Club, the Denison Downtown Association, and the Denison Chamber of Commerce, all of which he served as president; a former Denison city councilman and elder of First Christian Church, he received an Outstanding Citizen Award and was inducted into the Grayson County Business Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Highly dedicated to his alma mater, Mr. Bayless served on the UNT Board of Regents, President's Council, and Foundation Board; the founder of a local alumni chapter of Texoma Eagles and a stalwart backer of UNT athletics, he was honored with the Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1991 and the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1999; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known David Bayless will remember him as a dedicated civic leader and a generous friend, and his life serves as an inspiring example of all that one individual can accomplish; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of David Bayless, Sr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Patsy; to his children, David Bayless, Jr., and his wife, Sharon, and Brandy Hewitt and her husband, Stephen; to his grandchildren, Clanci Bayless Torres and her husband, Paul, David Bayless III, Kyra Hewitt, and Connor Hewitt; to his great-grandchildren, Paul Torres, Harrison Torres, David Bayless IV, and Brennan Bayless; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David Bayless, Sr.
