R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Boerne High School boys' soccer team has taken its first state title in a thrilling match against Wichita Falls Rider, and this remarkable achievement is indeed worthy of special note; and WHEREAS, After 100 minutes of scoreless play in regulation and overtime, the 2006 4A State Championship was decided by shootout, and it was in these final moments of the game that the Greyhounds demonstrated the talent and tenacity of true champions; and WHEREAS, With his team facing previously undefeated Wichita Falls Rider, Boerne coach David Rogers sent his seniors in to do battle, trusting them to maintain focused calm in this high-pressure situation; and WHEREAS, After senior Ken Grimes brought the shootout score to 3-2, Boerne's fate fell to junior goalie and tournament MVP Denver Williams, who rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion, denying Wichita Falls the tying goal and elevating the Greyhounds to state champions; and WHEREAS, This exciting victory is eloquent testament both to the skill and determination of Boerne's team members and to the support, training, and inspiration they have drawn from Coach Rogers and his staff; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor the Boerne High School boys' soccer team on winning the 2006 4A State Championship and extend to all those associated with this achievement sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team and its coaching staff as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
