R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Carmen Gutierrez is retiring from her position as a counselor with the Gadsden School District in New Mexico, drawing to a close nearly 35 years of service as an educator and school administrator, 25 of which were spent in Texas; and WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso, where she earned her master's degree in education and her certification in administration, Mrs. Gutierrez began her career as a parochial school teacher; she joined the El Paso Independent School District in the early 1970s and served the district for 18 years as a special education teacher, counselor, and assistant principal; in 1988, she moved to the Anthony ISD where she accepted her first job as a principal and worked with the Texas Education Agency in the Texas School Improvement Initiative; and WHEREAS, In 1991, Mrs. Gutierrez assumed responsibilities as a principal in the Ysleta ISD, and she later served as a professional development supervisor for the district before her retirement from Texas schools in 1996; her current tenure as a counselor with the Gadsden School District in New Mexico has spanned the past decade, and she has brought to this position her characteristic integrity and dedication to excellence; and WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Mrs. Gutierrez has enjoyed the love and support of her husband of more than 45 years, Carlos Gutierrez, as well as that of their eight cherished children; and WHEREAS, Those individuals who dedicate themselves to the education of our state's young people are truly worthy of all Texans' deepest respect and gratitude, and Mrs. Gutierrez may look back on her career with great pride, knowing that she has made a positive difference in the lives of countless people; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Carmen Gutierrez on her outstanding career in education and extend to her heartfelt best wishes for a very happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Gutierrez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
