R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The enduring history of the Great Western Trail is an important part of the lore of the Lone Star State, not only for the visual images of cowboys and cattle drives, but also for the invaluable role it played in the economic recovery and prosperity of Texas; and WHEREAS, On May 6, 2006, representatives from Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and other states traversed by the Great Western Trail will gather together in Ogallala, Nebraska, to celebrate the placement of the first trail marker in the Cornhusker State; and WHEREAS, Hosted by Rotary District 5630, this significant event will be highlighted by the Vernon Rotary Club's presentation of the marker; members of the Vernon Rotary Club, through their Centennial Rotary Project, have been instrumental in marking the trail in Texas and encouraging Rotary Clubs in other states to do the same; and WHEREAS, The Great Western Trail serves as a bridge between the people of our states, and by celebrating this enduring landmark, we recognize the importance of our shared heritage and history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the placement of the first trail marker in the state of Nebraska and commend Rotary District 5630, the members of the Vernon Rotary Club, and all participants for their active support of this momentous event; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Rotary District 5630 and the Vernon Rotary Club as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
