R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Janet Holliday of San Antonio was named Hershey's
STRIVE Volunteer of the Year for 2005 by the National Council of
Youth Sports; and
WHEREAS, The STRIVE (Sports Teach Respect, Initiative,
Values and Excellence) Award is accorded to coaches,
administrators, and volunteers who have demonstrated a heartfelt
dedication to helping kids succeed in sports; and
WHEREAS, One of only four recipients of this honor in the
country, Ms. Holliday has long been an active supporter of youth
sports in the Alamo City; for 13 years, she has chaired the San
Antonio Sports Hall of Fame Tribute, an annual gala that donates all
proceeds to the "Dream for Youth" program providing training to
disadvantaged children in the Olympic sports of badminton, diving,
gymnastics, fencing, swimming, and volleyball; and
WHEREAS, This notable Texan is also a leader in a fitness
walking program for elementary-age students, the Go!Kids
Challenge, and serves as cochair of the NCAA Final Four Division 1
volleyball championship; moreover, she has participated in efforts
to rebuild local fields and facilities to form a multisport
complex; and
WHEREAS, By encouraging participation in organized sports,
Janet Holliday has helped to instill important values of
self-confidence, teamwork, and discipline, and her leadership and
tireless dedication have created positive opportunities for
countless young Texans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Janet
Holliday on earning the 2005 Hershey's STRIVE Award from the
National Council of Youth Sports and commend her for her
contributions to the children and youth of San Antonio; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Holliday as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
