H.R. No. 286


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The city of San Antonio lost one of its most beloved residents with the passing of Bonita Annacelia Terry on January 27, 2006, at the age of 49; and WHEREAS, Ms. Terry was born at Hahn Air Base in Germany on February 10, 1956, and enjoyed the love and affection of seven brothers and three sisters growing up; a graduate of Jefferson High School and San Antonio College, she later earned a bachelor's degree in political science at The University of Texas at San Antonio; and WHEREAS, Committed to helping women, minorities, and the poor, Ms. Terry was a passionate advocate for the underrepresented; her efforts included work in behalf of the Democratic Party, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, the American Red Cross, and Network Power/Texas, an organization dedicated to women's issues; moreover, she helped area flood victims as executive director of the San Antonio Interfaith Flood Recovery Alliance; and WHEREAS, This remarkable Texan also served as an urban missionary at Travis Park United Methodist Church and as vice chair of the San Antonio United Methodist Campus Ministry board; in her work with Travis Park and Jefferson United Methodist Churches, she was highly instrumental in such achievements as a food bank, an outreach program, and a day center for people who find themselves homeless or in transition; more recently, she had concentrated her efforts on assisting the homeless in downtown San Antonio; and WHEREAS, With her warm laugh and seemingly limitless capacity for caring, Bonnie Terry was an inspiration to all who knew her; although her life ended far too soon, she leaves behind a legacy of compassion and generosity that stands as a testament to the finest qualities of the human spirit; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Bonita Annacelia Terry and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her sisters, Constance Ramos, Joni Lynch, and Wanda Cook; to her brothers, Wayne, Leon, Wesley, Warren, Waverly, Walter, and Ronald Terry; to her nieces and nephews; and to all who mourn the passing of this beloved woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bonita Annacelia Terry.
