R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The San Antonio Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., hosted the 70th Southwestern Province Council in San Antonio in April 2006, and this event provides an ideal opportunity to recognize this noteworthy fraternal organization and its remarkable legacy of service; and WHEREAS, The history of Kappa Alpha Psi begins with its founding as a college Greek letter organization on January 5, 1911, by 10 young men at Indiana University in Bloomington; and WHEREAS, The fraternity has since grown into a global organization with nearly 700 chapters and thousands of members dedicated to the purpose of achievement; the group's female contingent, the Silhouettes, is also dedicated to supporting and promoting Kappa Alpha Psi's worthy ideals; and WHEREAS, This distinguished fraternal association is known for its rich tradition of encouraging personal excellence and public service through its program of leadership, mentorship, and guidance for young men, and it has positively impacted the lives of many in Texas and beyond; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and its San Antonio Alumni Chapter for the many significant contributions they have made to the citizens of this state and country.
