R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Bowden Chapter of Business and Professional Women honored Patricia J. Wright-Williams of San Antonio with its Woman of the Year award on October 16, 2005; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1942, the Bowden chapter has been involved with community service outreach for more than 60 years and provides economic assistance for students at St. Philip's College; the organization also supports such worthy organizations as the NAACP, the United Negro College Fund, and Santa's Elves; and WHEREAS, Having led the Bowden chapter as president, Mrs. Williams received this important honor for her commitment to the organization's activities and her dedication to the needs of the community; this esteemed Texan is a native of Austin and graduated from L. C. Anderson High School in 1969; she received her bachelor's degree in occupational education business administration from Wayland Baptist University; and WHEREAS, Employed as an archives assistant for St. Philip's College Library and Learning Resources Center of the Alamo Community College District, Mrs. Williams has distinguished herself as a member of the school's community for 34 years; she has served on numerous campus committees, including the president's gala and graduation planning committees; and WHEREAS, In addition, Mrs. Williams is an active volunteer and has donated her time and efforts to many area organizations such as the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education; no stranger to honors, she has received many notable awards, including the Unified Staff Council Recognition of Service and the St. Philip's College Alumni and Friends 2003 Distinguished Alumni Service Award; moreover, she is a dedicated member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the 2005 secretary for the Courtesy Minister Council Committee; and WHEREAS, Those individuals who step forward to share their time with others are indeed deserving of our profound admiration and gratitude, and it is truly a pleasure to honor Patricia Wright-Williams for enriching the lives of countless Texans with her service to the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Patricia J. Wright-Williams on being named the 2005 Woman of the Year by the Bowden Chapter of Business and Professional Women and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Williams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
