R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with meaningful moments and exceptional accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of Cora Faye Dixon Clayton of San Antonio, who passed away on September 14, 2005, at the age of 64; and WHEREAS, The first African American congressional staff member from south of the Mason-Dixon line, Mrs. Clayton distinguished herself as an employee of Congressman Henry B. Gonzalez for 30 years; an able communicator, she acted as the congressman's personal secretary and researched various issues for constituents; and WHEREAS, Born on September 25, 1940, in San Antonio, this esteemed Texan graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School and received her bachelor's degree in business from Our Lady of the Lake University; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Clayton was a dedicated community advocate and spent most of her professional life and early retirement volunteering for charities; she also enjoyed spending time with her daughters, watching baseball, and playing bridge with friends; and WHEREAS, Beloved by friends and family, Cora Faye Dixon Clayton will be dearly missed by all those who were privileged to know her, and her memory will continue to inspire others for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Cora Faye Dixon Clayton and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughters, Tina Marie Clayton and Michelle "Toni" Clayton Collier; to her son-in-law, Larry Collier; to her brothers, Ralph and Jessy Dixon; to her sister, Marian Dixon; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cora Faye Dixon Clayton.
