R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, St. Paul United Methodist Church in San Antonio
hosted its Women's Day program on March 26, 2006; and
WHEREAS, One of the oldest historically African American
churches in the area, this esteemed house of worship has played a
pivotal role in the lives of its congregants as well as residents of
the surrounding neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, The Women's Day program, chaired by Lois Washington,
featured as keynote speaker the Reverend Jamelle Jacobs, who
currently pastors Knights Monumental African Methodist Episcopal
Church in Stockbridge, Georgia; Reverend Jacobs accepted the call
to the ministry in 1981 and was ordained three years later; the
founder of Love in Action, an interdenominational ministry at the
University of Virginia, she has preached throughout the
northeastern United States; and
WHEREAS, The St. Paul Women's Day program offers a valuable
avenue for women to further serve their church and the wider
community, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor its participants as
well as the church's entire congregation at this time; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 2006
Women's Day program of St. Paul United Methodist Church and extend
to all those who attended heartfelt best wishes for the future; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
