H.R. No. 302
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Ministers' Wives and
Ministers' Widows gathered in the Alamo City for its annual
conference on February 17-18, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Hosted by the San Antonio membership, participants
opened their yearly meeting with a welcome and worship service at
Lilly of the Valley Missionary Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, "Keeping the Vision Going: Reaching Out, Reclaiming
and Retaining" was chosen as the 2006 theme for the Lone Star State
group, which was chartered in June 1988 by the International
Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Since the creation of the Texas affiliate, chapters
have been founded in El Paso, Houston, San Antonio, Austin,
Midland-Odessa, Corpus Christi, Waco, and Wichita Falls, and women
from Dallas and Edna have also participated in the meetings and work
of the association; Austin served as the site of the initial state
conference in 1990, and chapters in El Paso and Houston sent the
first Texas representatives to attend an international meeting; and
WHEREAS, The key words "Love, Faith, and Prayer" are included
on the seal of the international association, reminding the
interdenominational membership of their high purpose; committed to
building a better world, the women of the Texas organization give
generously of their time, talents, and resources in support of the
Children's Defense Fund, the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, the
United Negro College Fund, and scholarships for Texas youth; and
WHEREAS, Since 1988, wives and widows of Texas ministers have
made a positive difference in the quality of life for countless
individuals, and it is a distinct pleasure to join in honoring this
respected organization; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend all those
associated with the Texas Association of Ministers' Wives and
Ministers' Widows on the organization's innumerable contributions
in behalf of the Lone Star State and extend to them best wishes for
the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
