R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members of the Delta Kappa Chapter of Eta Phi
Beta Sorority, Inc., have made invaluable contributions to the San
Antonio community through their outstanding leadership and
service; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1942 at Lewis Business College in
Detroit, Michigan, Eta Phi Beta was established to promote higher
scholastic standards, personal growth, and career awareness while
providing opportunities for community service; and
WHEREAS, Today, the organization remains committed to
supporting these values as well as to fostering leadership skills
in its members and promoting business education among young people;
through the years, the group has contributed more than $500,000 in
scholarships to colleges through the United Negro College Fund; and
WHEREAS, The Delta Kappa Chapter of San Antonio was founded
on these same principles, and the group has remained committed to
supporting and encouraging professional women in the Alamo City;
and
WHEREAS, Embracing their chapter motto, "Not for ourselves,
but for others," members Vera Ards, Anita Freeman, Regina Gray,
Melrose Haley, Ada Jackson, Lillie Montgomery, Valgean Pierson,
Doris Washington, Vera Watson, Elese Williams, Marilyn Zeigler, and
Joyce Haley donate their collective talents to support such worthy
organizations as the ARC of Texas, Happy Home Day Center, Cathy's
Care Center, and St. Benedict Catholic School; and
WHEREAS, Together, the members of the Delta Kappa Chapter
have helped to enhance the lives of many of their fellow Texans, and
in so doing, they have set a sterling example of leadership and
public service to which all may aspire; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the members of the
Delta Kappa Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., for their
exceptional service and extend to them sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
