H.R. No. 315
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The citizens of Frisco lost an admired civic leader
and valued friend with the passing of Dr. Erwin G. Pink on April 20,
2006; and
WHEREAS, A native of Wichita Falls, Dr. Pink served his
country with distinction in the medical corps of the U.S. Navy
before earning his bachelor's degree from Midwestern University in
1949; he went on to graduate from Southwestern Medical School in
1953, arriving in Frisco the following year; and
WHEREAS, For 43 years, Dr. Pink ably addressed the medical
needs of his community; a dedicated and caring physician, he
consistently worked to provide the best health care possible to
each of his patients; for nearly half of his career, he served as
Frisco's only doctor, a responsibility he accepted with enthusiasm;
and
WHEREAS, He operated the Frisco Medical Clinic until his
retirement in 1997 and also lent his talents to the Frisco Raccoons,
serving free of charge as the team's doctor; dubbed "Painless Pink"
by the players, he was known for his ability to ease suffering and
treat injuries quickly; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Smith made significant contributions to his
adopted hometown in other capacities as well; a valued member of the
Lions Club, he served on the Frisco ISD School Board for nearly two
decades and was active in preserving community history through the
Heritage Association of Frisco, which he co-founded and served as
president; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed Texan helped to bring the
first major industry to town when he convinced the Gould battery
recycling plant to locate in Frisco and arranged for the Frisco
Railroad to donate the land on which the business would be built;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Pink's efforts in behalf of the city were lauded
by his fellow citizens, who named an elementary school and a sports
field in his honor; moreover, in 2004, he and his beloved wife,
Elisabeth, earned the title of Living Legends from the Collin
County Community College District Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, Few individuals have had such a profound and lasting
impact on their communities as Dr. Pink, and although he will be
greatly missed, those who were privileged to know this
compassionate, generous man will forever carry his memory close in
their hearts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Dr. Erwin G. Pink and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
family: to his wife, Elisabeth Rue Pink; to his children, Susanne
Cornelius, Janet Prejean, Mary Escobedo, and Philip Pink; to his
seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and to his other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Erwin
Pink.
