R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Words cannot express the heartache felt at the loss
of U.S. Army Reserve Staff Sergeant Clint Newman of Pleasanton, who
died in Afghanistan in February 2006, at the age of 26; and
WHEREAS, A member of the 321st Civil Affairs Unit, Staff
Sergeant Newman was mortally wounded while serving his second tour
of duty in Afghanistan, where his unit was helping to rebuild
schools; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Newman attended Pleasanton High
School and was active in the Eagle Band, varsity football team, and
National Honor Society; he enlisted in the Army shortly after his
1997 graduation, serving his country in Bosnia and Germany before
joining the Reserves and enrolling in The University of Texas at San
Antonio; and
WHEREAS, This devoted son and good friend was a source of
strength and inspiration to many at home and in Afghanistan, where
he provided comfort to his fellow soldiers, beside whom he stood
courageously in the face of danger; and
WHEREAS, He was bold and unwavering in carrying out his
duties, and he received recognition for his efforts, including the
title of Soldier of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Our state and our nation are fortunate to have men
and women whose love for their country inspires them to military
service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary soldier is a
sobering reminder of the cost of war; Staff Sergeant Newman will be
deeply missed, but the memory of his valor and generosity of spirit
will live on in the hearts of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Clint Newman and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
family: to his mother and stepfather, Debbie and Bill Agnew; to his
father and stepmother, Fred and Debra Newman; to his brothers, Ty
and Roby; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
Reserve Staff Sergeant Clint Newman.
