H.R. No. 330


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Citizens of Grand Prairie are mourning the death of beloved local businesswoman Rebecca Eddlemon, who passed away on March 31, 2006, at the age of 89; and WHEREAS, Born and raised in Cedar Hill, Mrs. Eddlemon attended Lancaster schools before meeting her husband, Oscar Eddlemon, on a blind date; the couple married in 1939, and in 1953, they moved to Grand Prairie, where they bought a drive-in grocery store owned by Mr. Eddlemon's brother; over the years, Mrs. Eddlemon shared her warmth and kindness with countless customers, many of whom became friends, and she was known for always seeing the good in people; though her sons took over the business some years ago, Mrs. Eddlemon continued to help out each day in the store, sitting on a stool near the register; and WHEREAS, A charter member of the Spade and Shovel Garden Club, Mrs. Eddlemon also served as an election judge for her community for more than a decade and helped initiate the city's first YMCA membership drive; and WHEREAS, She attended Inglewood Baptist Church until the death of her husband, when she began watching televised services, rather than sit in the pew without him; and WHEREAS, Rebecca Eddlemon was a woman of rare compassion and strength, and an inspiration to those who shared in the richness of her friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Rebecca Eddlemon and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons, David Eddlemon and his wife, Diane Plattner Eddlemon, Joe Eddlemon, and Johnny Eddlemon and his wife, Karen Hale Eddlemon; to her grandchildren; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rebecca Eddlemon.
