R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Countless children depend on the dedication and enthusiasm of teachers such as Nilda Segura, who retired in December 2005 after 31 years of excellent service to the students of the Rio Grande Valley; and WHEREAS, After losing her father as a young child, Mrs. Segura worked alongside her mother as a migrant farm worker; later she participated in the Neighborhood Youth Corps, an employment program for low-income high school students, and, in 1971, she graduated from Mission High School; with loans from the Hinson-Hazlewood College Student Loan Program, she was able to attend college and earned a bachelor's degree from Texas A&I University in 1975; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan began her professional career as a first grade teacher in Alton; five years later, she moved to the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District, where she spent the last 25 years, working for a time at Travis Elementary School and then at De La Vina Elementary School; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Segura enjoys the love and support of her family that includes her husband of 30 years, Antonio Segura, and their daughter, Celia, a student at Texas A&M University in Kingsville, as well as her mother; and WHEREAS, Committed to the education and advancement of the students of South Texas for more than 30 years, Nilda Segura has had a positive impact on generations of children and their families; and WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized Nilda Segura by authoring this resolution in her behalf during the 3rd Called Session of the 79th Texas Legislature; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Nilda Segura on the occasion of her retirement as a schoolteacher in the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Segura as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
