R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Earl Young of Dallas is a noted Texas businessman
who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his interests
across the globe; and
WHEREAS, A consultant, corporate officer, and board member
for many companies in the United States and abroad, Mr. Young is a
director of Madagascar Resources, an Australian-based heavy
mineral mining company, Diamond Fields International Ltd., a
diamond mining company, and Aurora Energy, a natural gas company
based in Michigan; and
WHEREAS, He is a personal friend of the president of
Madagascar, His Excellency Marc Ravalomana, and serves as president
of the U.S.-Madagascar Business Council; in his role as president
and CEO of Madagascar World Voice, Mr. Young is working in
cooperation with World Christian Broadcasting on the construction
of a shortwave radio station in Mahajunga in order to broadcast a
message of hope and freedom to some three billion shortwave radio
receivers around the world; and
WHEREAS, A caring corporate neighbor, he is a member of the
board of directors of the Corporate Council on Africa, a nonprofit
organization based in Washington, D.C., with a membership that
represents nearly 85 percent of all American private sector
investments in Africa; he further serves the global community
through his participation with the CCA AIDS task force, an advisory
group that works with the U.S. government and the private sector to
alleviate the worldwide health problems presented by this disease;
and
WHEREAS, Closer to home, Mr. Young was a key figure in the
naming of the track and field team of Abilene Christian University
as the "Sports Dynasty of the Century" by Texas Monthly magazine; an
All-American in track and field at Abilene Christian, this
world-class athlete represented the United States on the 1963 Pan
American Team and on numerous international teams, establishing
four American and four world records; moreover, he was a member of
the 1960 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team, placing sixth in the
400-meter race, winning a gold medal in the 1600-meter relay, and
setting a new Olympic record, and he appeared on the cover of Sports
Illustrated as an outstanding Olympian from Abilene Christian
University; and
WHEREAS, The founding chair of the Olympians' Relief Fund,
Mr. Young has served on the board of the U.S. Olympic Alumni
Association and as president of the Southwest Chapter of Olympians;
and
WHEREAS, Today, this esteemed Texan enjoys spending time with
his lovely wife, Nancy, and their two children, Stacey and Grant,
and he continues to contribute to many worthwhile endeavors, both
in his community and around the world; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Earl Young for his
many achievements and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Young as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
