H.R. No. 348
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army National Guard
Sergeant Jessie Davila suffered an immeasurable loss with the death
of this valiant soldier in Iraq on February 20, 2006, at the age of
29; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 137th
Infantry, Sergeant Davila was killed when his patrol came under
attack in Baghdad; and
WHEREAS, A loving father, son, and brother, he was born July
15, 1976, in Raymondville; he joined the U.S. Marine Corps shortly
after his graduation from high school in Greensburg, Kansas, and
served a tour of duty in the Middle East, attaining the rank of
corporal; later joining the Army National Guard, he was deployed to
Iraq in November 2005; and
WHEREAS, Possessed of a great sense of humor and a winning
smile, Sergeant Davila was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting,
fishing, and working with horses and cattle; and
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary young man is a
sobering reminder of the cost of war; Sergeant Davila embodied the
highest ideals of the U.S. Armed Forces, and those who knew and
cherished him will forever carry him close in their hearts; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Jessie Davila and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
family: to his daughter, Sydney Katherine Davila; to his father,
Santiago; to his mother, Clara; to his stepmother, Linda Klaus; to
his brother, Jacob Davila; to his sister, Rose Allphin; to his
paternal grandmother, Maria Luisa Davila; to his step-grandfather,
Andrew Klaus; to his fiancée, Yvette Goff; and to his other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
National Guard Sergeant Jessie Davila.
