R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends deeply mourn the untimely passing of Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Romeo Garza on December 7, 2005, at the age of 37; and WHEREAS, Born on January 13, 1968, Trooper Garza graduated from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School in 1986, attended The University of Texas-Pan American, and received an associate degree from Texas State Technical Institute; he joined the U.S. Army and served his country in Operation Desert Storm during his three years of military service; and WHEREAS, Fulfilling a lifelong dream to become a law enforcement officer, Trooper Garza entered the Department of Public Safety Academy in 1998 and graduated a Texas state trooper; during his seven-year tenure with DPS, he worked as a field training officer and served on the riot and vehicle reconstruction accident teams; known for his dedication and professionalism, he assisted the U.S. Secret Service with the escort of Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton and Vice President Dick Cheney on their visits to the Rio Grande Valley; he had been stationed with DPS in Pecos for several months at the time of his death; and WHEREAS, An avid sportsman, Trooper Garza was fond of fishing and hunting, and he also enjoyed barbecuing, gardening, and listening to country music; devoted to his family, he delighted in the company of his nephew and stepson, and experienced incomparable joy when he became the father of his cherished baby daughter, Sabrina; and WHEREAS, Trooper Garza demonstrated a deep commitment to safeguarding the public welfare as a law enforcement professional, and although his life ended far too soon, he will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Romeo Garza and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Melinda Garza; to his daughter, Sabrina R. Garza; to his stepson, Jacob A. Jimenez; to his parents, Juanita Garza and Agapito Garza, Jr.; to his sisters, Lou Ann MacDonald and Iris Marie Garza; to his brother, Gary Garza; to his nephew, Cameron MacDonald; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Trooper Romeo Garza.
