R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Plano community lost an esteemed community
activist with the passing of Jacqueline Schnittker on April 24,
2006, at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Schnittker was born on May 3, 1930, in
Sandusky, Ohio, to deaf parents and grew up using sign language;
after attending Ohio State University, she taught school for a year
and married Lyle Gene Schnittker in 1954; their union was blessed
with three children, and they moved to Plano in 1972; and
WHEREAS, A prominent figure in North Texas conservatism for
more than three decades, Mrs. Schnittker volunteered for the Collin
County Republican Party for more than 25 years, serving as precinct
chairwoman for more than a decade; in 1998, the organization
honored her with the John McVeigh Award for outstanding service and
dedication; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her political involvement, Mrs.
Schnittker served six years on the board of directors of Collin
County Child Protective Services with four years as vice president;
at the age of 75, she tallied an impressive achievement with her
graduation from the Plano Citizens Academy and the Plano Police
Academy; and
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
temper the profound sadness felt by all who knew this distinguished
lady, and her memory will long endure in the hearts of countless
family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Jacqueline Schnittker and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
her family: to her children, Doug Schnittker and his wife, Patty,
Nancye Spears and her husband, David, and Mike Schnittker and his
wife, Shelley; to her seven grandchildren, Brian and Bobby
Schnittker, Randall and Travis Spears, and Rachel, Natalie, and
Erin Schnittker; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jacqueline
Schnittker.
