R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Sonia Alaniz, a kindergarten teacher at Roosevelt 
Elementary School in San Antonio, has been named an Edgewood 
Independent School District 2005 Teacher of the Year; and
	WHEREAS, The prestigious Teacher of the Year awards are 
presented to educators who inspire a love of learning that places 
their students on the path to a bright and rewarding future; and
	WHEREAS, Ms. Alaniz graduated from Texas A&I 
University--Kingsville with a bachelor of business administration 
degree in accounting before attending The University of Texas at 
San Antonio, where she earned her teaching certificate and master's 
degree in bilingual education; employed at Roosevelt since 2005, 
she is a grade-level team leader, a member of the curriculum 
committee, a tutor and mentor, and the leader of the Cinco de Mayo 
parade; and
	WHEREAS, Children are the Lone Star State's most precious 
resource, and a quality education is vital in order for our young 
people to become successful adults; Ms. Alaniz has demonstrated the 
commitment to excellence that we expect from our teachers and is 
indeed an exemplary role model in the teaching profession; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Sonia Alaniz 
of Roosevelt Elementary School on being named an Edgewood 
Independent School District 2005 Teacher of the Year and extend to 
her best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Ms. Alaniz as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
