R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A loving circle of family and friends will long cherish their memories of Helen Natalie Jacobs Strauss, who passed away on April 29, 2006, at the age of 87; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Strauss was born on October 9, 1918, in Columbus, Ohio, to Leslie and Helen Jacobs; as a young girl she moved with her family to Dallas, where she attended The Hockaday School; after graduation, she enrolled in Wellesley College and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from The University of Texas; and WHEREAS, In 1941, she married the love of her life, Robert S. Strauss, a founding partner of the Dallas law firm Akin, Gump, Strauss, Haner & Feld; Mr. Strauss also served as chair of the Democratic National Committee and as ambassador to the Soviet Union, and throughout his career, Mrs. Strauss supported her beloved husband, best friend, and confidant with tenderness and warmth; and WHEREAS, She took great pride in her roles as wife and mother and created a happy home for her family, which included three children, Robert A. Strauss, Richard C. Strauss, and Susan Breen; moreover, she drew immense pleasure from her many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Also dedicated to making her community a better place, Mrs. Strauss served on the board of Hope Cottage, the oldest nonsectarian, nonprofit, United Way-affiliated adoption center in Dallas; in addition, she was a valued member of the Dallas Woman's Club for many years; and WHEREAS, Helen Strauss enjoyed the affection of a wide circle of friends and loved ones throughout her lifetime, and although she will be greatly missed, her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she so richly blessed with her friendship and kindness; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Helen Natalie Jacobs Strauss and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Robert S. Strauss; to her children, Robert A. Strauss and his wife, Olga, Richard C. Strauss and his wife, Diana, and Susan Breen and her husband, George; to her grandchildren, Lisa Mastin and her husband, John, Lauri Strauss, Robert A. Strauss and his wife, Whitney, Staci McCord and her husband, Craig, Tania Agran and her husband, Scott, Jenifer Strauss, and Natalie Breen; to her great–grandchildren, John Mastin, Jordan Mastin, Ricky Agran, Alex Agran, and Robert Theodore Strauss; to her brother-in-law, Theodore H. Strauss; to her sister-in-law, Marian Jacobs; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Helen Natalie Jacobs Strauss.
