H.R. No. 486
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Michael Christopher Riemann of Del Rio, the high
school state champion power lifter in his weight class for two
consecutive years, has earned a place among the elite high school
power lifters of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Competing in the 123-pound class, Mr. Riemann won
his first title in 2005, his junior season, by lifting a total
combined weight of 1,075 pounds in the bench press, squat, and dead
lift; his performance in the 2006 state meet was even more
impressive, as he became repeat champion by hoisting a combined
weight of 1,110 pounds; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding performances have earned Mr.
Riemann a spot in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association
Hall of Fame, becoming the first athlete from Del Rio to receive
this honor; and
WHEREAS, On his birth on February 27, 1988, Mr. Riemann
weighed just 4 pounds, 5 ounces, and hardly seemed destined for
power-lifting glory; but through years of determined work, this
gritty competitor made himself into an accomplished athlete who
began playing in organized leagues while in the fourth grade; in
addition to power lifting, he has excelled in basketball, baseball,
golf, track, and football; deserving of particular attention are
his exploits on the gridiron, where he has been a defensive
sparkplug for the Del Rio High School Rams and was selected a team
captain and the most valuable player of the special teams; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Riemann finds inspiration for his achievements
in those around him, including his father, Mario Riemann, his
brother Danny and sister Erica Miranda, and his many coaches,
teachers, and teammates; most of all, he draws on the example of his
mother, Norma Castellanos Rodriguez, who has instilled in her son
the desire to compete and win; and
WHEREAS, In winning back-to-back state power-lifting titles,
Mr. Riemann has proved himself a young man of immense talent and
dedication, and his victories are a source of pride to his high
school and hometown; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Michael
Christopher Riemann on winning two consecutive state titles in
power lifting and extend to him warmest best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Riemann as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
