H.R. No. 487



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, On August 31, 2005, Dr. Tramel Rex Wilson of Alpine 
retired from Sul Ross State University after 29 years as assistant 
professor of music and director of some of the most memorable choral 
shows in the region; and
	WHEREAS, Born and raised in San Angelo, this esteemed Texan 
earned a bachelor's degree in music from Hardin-Simmons University 
in 1962, a master's degree in music education from the University of 
Colorado in 1964, and a doctoral degree from the University of North 
Texas in 1975; he gained experience as a choir director at junior 
highs in San Angelo and Lubbock and at a high school in Denton 
before he was hired at Sul Ross in 1976; and
	WHEREAS, In addition to teaching voice and choral music 
classes, Dr. Wilson taught country dancing in the physical 
education department for more than 14 years and numerous curriculum 
and instruction courses in the education department; as director of 
the university choir, he garnered strong community support for the 
performances, in which he was known for his animated directing 
style; in 1991, students and faculty members awarded him Sul Ross' 
Outstanding Teaching Award; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson has also shared his talents with the 
Alpine community, singing and playing piano for churches and 
organizations and conducting the Big Bend Chamber Orchestra in the 
early 1980s; he is a member of the National Association of Teachers 
of Singing and the National Association of Middle Schools; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson has positively influenced countless 
students during his nearly three decades of teaching and directing 
music, and as he enjoys the next chapter of his life, he may reflect 
with great pride on his notable achievements; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. T. Rex 
Wilson on his retirement as assistant professor of music at Sul Ross 
State University and extend to him sincere best wishes for the 
future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Dr. Wilson as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
