R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Horace Williams III of
Houston, who died on April 11, 2006, at the age of 64, may take
comfort in memories of the many happy times they shared with this
kindhearted Texan; and
WHEREAS, Born in the Bayou City on June 7, 1941, Mr. Williams
attended Booker T. Washington High School, Tonkawa College, and Lee
College; and
WHEREAS, He was employed with NASA and Lockheed Martin, and
he became the first African American assistant general manager of
Houston's Metropolitan Transit Authority, from which he retired to
focus his energies on his barbeque restaurant; and
WHEREAS, Married to JoAnn Perry for 42 years, Mr. Williams
took great pride in his three children, nine grandchildren, and six
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, This loving father and doting grandfather was a
member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church and was active with the Boy
Scouts of America and with many local and national governing
boards; he was a founder of the Council for Entrepreneurship at
Texas Southern University and was a former chair of the minority
affairs committee for APTA; and
WHEREAS, Horace Williams contributed to his community
through a lifetime of purposeful endeavor, and his generosity and
fun-loving nature will be remembered by all those who shared in his
love and friendship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Horace Williams III and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
his family: to his children, Horace Williams IV, Reginald K.
Williams and his wife, Rhonda, and Elizabeth Raymond and her
husband, Albert; to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to
his stepfather, Charlie Lee, and his wife, Debbie; to his
stepbrother, Nathaniel Baker; and to his many other relatives and
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Horace
Williams III.
