H.R. No. 529


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Margarine G. Beaman of Austin has been presented a MetLife Foundation Older Volunteers Enrich America Award by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging; and WHEREAS, Nominated by Travis County RSVP, Ms. Beaman is one of only 25 individuals to receive this prestigious national award that honors outstanding older volunteers for their contributions to their communities; and WHEREAS, Ms. Beaman has long been a role model of civic service; volunteering nearly 2,000 hours annually, she has served as president of the Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center Advisory Board and has lent her time to such worthy organizations as the Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program, the Capital Area Workforce Development Board, Central East Austin Community Organization, Crime Stoppers, Executive Women International, Reading is Fundamental, the East Austin Rotary, and the City of Austin Police Department; and WHEREAS, Among her many notable achievements, Ms. Beaman pioneered a project for the blind and visually impaired that led to the world's first Braille instructions on ATM machines and mall directories; she has coordinated hundreds of volunteers for national conferences for the blind and locally assists in Braille projects for banks, state buildings, libraries, museums, and public elevators; and WHEREAS, This notable Texan was previously recognized for her efforts when the Women's Chamber of Commerce named her one of the Texas Women of the Century; and WHEREAS, The future of the State of Texas, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, on the dedication of people who, like Margarine Beaman, use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Margarine G. Beaman on her receipt of a MetLife Foundation Older Volunteers Enrich America Award and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Beaman as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
