R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Judge Lloyd Rust, Jr., of Wharton has stepped down from his position as a trustee with the Johnson Foundation after 29 years of service, and this occasion provides an ideal time to recognize this esteemed Texan for his many accomplishments and contributions to his community; and WHEREAS, A founding member of the Johnson Foundation board of trustees, Judge Rust brought his characteristic integrity and professionalism to his duties with the foundation; and WHEREAS, This fourth generation Texan was born in 1919 in Wharton County and enrolled in pre-law at The University of Texas at Austin on his graduation from high school; when the United States entered World War II, he joined the navy; after passing the bar exam but before completing his law degree, he was sworn in as a licensed lawyer while aboard the USS Hull; and WHEREAS, Following the war, Judge Rust completed the course work for his law degree, and in 1947 he won a seat in the Texas House of Representatives, marking the beginning of a distinguished career in public service; in 1950, he was elected county attorney for Wharton County and served in that role for 18 years before being elected judge with the court of domestic relations, now the state district court, in 1974; he retired from that position in 1983; and WHEREAS, Judge Rust has further benefited his community as a trustee and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, and he has been a member of the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks Lodge, and Wharton County Chamber of Commerce; he also managed his family's farming and real estate businesses while helping to provide a loving home for his wife, the late Rose Marie Rust, and his four daughters; and WHEREAS, This distinguished public servant has played an integral role in the vitality of Wharton County, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Judge Lloyd Rust, Jr., on his years of service to the Johnson Foundation and to his community, state, and nation and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Judge Rust as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
