R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Darcel Walker of the Girl Scouts of the Rio Grande has been accorded a great honor with her receipt of the Girl Scout Gold Award; and WHEREAS, Recognizing young women for their commitment to themselves, their community, and the world, the award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting; and WHEREAS, Each candidate for this prestigious accolade must complete a number of projects that build on the skills she has learned throughout her years in Girl Scouts and that culminate in a Gold Award project that has a positive and lasting impact on her community; and WHEREAS, A freshman at Hampton University, where she is studying neonatal nursing, Ms. Walker was class president of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America and a debutant at the 2005/2006 Ms. Black El Paso Scholarship Pageant; and WHEREAS, By encouraging young women to exercise leadership, explore career opportunities, and discover more about themselves, the Girl Scout program builds the confidence, self-awareness, and community spirit of our future leaders, and in completing the challenging requirements of the Gold Award, Ms. Walker has demonstrated the perseverance and discipline that are vital to success in life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Darcel Walker on her receipt of the Girl Scout Gold Award and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Walker as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
