H.R. No. 608
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Nueces County commissioners broke ground May 2,
2006, for Phase I of the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds,
an extensive complex that, when completed, will be one of the finest
of its kind in the state; and
WHEREAS, A master plan for the complex, designed in the
Spanish colonial style, was accepted unanimously by the county
commissioners in August 2005; located in Robstown at the
intersection of State Highway 44 and U.S. Highway 77, the new
fairgrounds will provide exceptional accommodations for
equestrian, rodeo, and agricultural events; and
WHEREAS, Phase I includes a livestock show ring, two large
animal barns, and an equestrian center encompassing a
62,000-square-foot covered horse arena, a 150-stall horse barn, and
two warm-up rings; the show arena and livestock pavilions are
scheduled to be completed in time for the Nueces County Junior
Livestock Show in January 2007, while the equestrian center is to be
finished the following summer; and
WHEREAS, Future plans call for the construction of a
4,000–seat Heritage Center, an RV park, and other facilities;
Fairgrounds Field, the first project in the complex, was completed
in 2003 and is now home to a professional baseball team, the Coastal
Bend Aviators, and numerous high school baseball playoffs; and
WHEREAS, The Borchard Regional Fairgrounds complex will
constitute an invaluable asset for the people of Nueces County, and
all who have worked to make this facility a reality are indeed to be
commended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the
groundbreaking for Phase I of the Richard M. Borchard Regional
Fairgrounds and extend congratulations to the people of Nueces
County on the undertaking of this outstanding project.
