R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Austin's women's indoor
track and field team captured the 2006 NCAA Indoor Track and Field
Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the
University of Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, Led by head coach Bev Kearney, the Longhorns
dominated the two-day event, scoring 51 points to outpace Stanford
University's total of 36; the victory was Coach Kearney's sixth NCAA
team title at Texas and her seventh overall collegiate title; and
WHEREAS, The Longhorns received outstanding effort from each
team member, with notable performances from juniors Marshevet
Hooker and Michelle Carter and the 4x400-meter relay team composed
of senior Sheretta Jones, freshman Alexandria Anderson, senior
LaTashia Kerr, and senior Melaine Walker; and
WHEREAS, With the 2006 championship title in hand, the
UT-Austin women's track and field team now holds back-to-back NCAA
track championships, and this impressive achievement is testament
to the talent, hard work, and dedication of the team and its
coaching staff; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Coach Bev
Kearney and The University of Texas at Austin women's indoor track
and field squad on claiming the NCAA Indoor Track and Field
Championships and extend best wishes to the team for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
