R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A loving family and many cherished friends mourn the
passing of Thomas Earl Winters of Mills County on April 16, 2006;
and
WHEREAS, Born on May 17, 1934, on a ranch near Evant, Mr.
Winters attended Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the
Corps of Cadets; and
WHEREAS, He worked many years alongside his father and
brother in the livestock industry; together, they owned and
operated the Lampasas Livestock Auction in addition to numerous
other auctions throughout Central Texas; they also raised and
traded cattle, sheep, and goats in the Southwest and Midwest and
operated ranches in Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, and Colorado; and
WHEREAS, During the 1970s, he and his brother-in-law, Billy
Bob Barnett, owned and operated the Miller Beer Distributorship in
Fort Worth and Dallas; in the early 1990s, Mr. Winters played a
significant role in building and operating the Valley Greyhound
Track in Harlingen, and he was involved in a number of other
business ventures throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, He married Wynona Joan Barnett in 1955, and four
years later, they purchased the C Bar Ranch in Mills County, which
they made their lifelong home; and
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, successful rancher and
businessman, and loyal friend, Thomas Earl Winters leaves behind a
host of family members and friends who will long cherish their
memories of this distinguished Texan's intelligence, honesty, and
wit; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Thomas Earl Winters and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
his family: to his wife of 50 years, Wynona Winters; to his
daughters, Molly Earl Winters and Maggy Katherine Jones; to his
grandchildren, Thomas Marshall Winters, Thomas Randolph Jones,
Marla Katherine Jones, and Nicholas Alexander Jones; to his
great-grandchild, Mia LaFrae Winters; to his brother, David William
Winters; to his nephews, Thomas David Winters and John Carter
Winters; to his granddaughter-in-law, Cheyenne M'Dee Winters; to
his son-in-law, Craig Randolph Jones; and to his other relatives
and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thomas Earl
Winters.
