R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The community of Daingerfield lost one of its most
admired citizens with the passing of Mary Sue Hill on February 14,
2006, at the age of 69; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Daingerfield City Council from May
6, 2000, until her resignation in January 2006, Mrs. Hill was deeply
committed to the people of her community and gave readily of her
time and talents in their behalf; in addition to holding public
office, she involved herself wholeheartedly in a number of other
community endeavors, always devoting her utmost efforts to the
cause at hand; and
WHEREAS, Sue Hill worked as a registered nurse at Titus
Regional Medical Center, Hospital in the Pines, and East Texas
Medical Center; she also served as a volunteer with the
Daingerfield-Lone Star Volunteer Ambulance Service for about six
years and then with Champion Emergency Medical Services; and
WHEREAS, Her affiliations included the Fellowship Baptist
Church in Daingerfield and the Daingerfield Eastern Star, of both
of which she was a valued member; and
WHEREAS, Originally from Alabama, Mrs. Hill was born in
Alabama City on August 12, 1936; her husband, James G. Hill, Sr.,
who was also engaged in many community activities, preceded her in
death; and
WHEREAS, Held in the highest esteem and affection by her
fellow citizens, Sue Hill touched many lives and tirelessly worked
to advance the well-being of her community; her memory will be
forever cherished by those who shared in the warmth of her love and
friendship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Mary Sue Hill and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her
family: to her children, James Hill, Jr., Bobby Hill, David Phillip
Pope II, Venita Stewart, and Jamie Calender; to her foster daughter
and son-in-law, Nita and Chris McCord; to her grandchildren, Bryce
Kelley Stewart, Melissa Hill, John Winston Hill, David James Pope,
Marsha Jeanette Pope, Jimmy Lee Pope, Tyler Kaine Calender, and
Christopher James Calender; to her great-grandchildren; to her
mother-in-law, Myrtis McDuffie Reid; to her sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Peggy and Cloyce Tyner; and to her other relatives
and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Sue
Hill.
