R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Hugh Lee Conner of Houston were greatly saddened by his passing, and we join them in reflecting on this esteemed Texan's rich and eventful life; and WHEREAS, Born September 15, 1912, Mr. Conner was the eldest of 11 children, and as a youth he attended school in Brenham while learning about farming through firsthand experience at home; and WHEREAS, In 1932, he moved to Houston, taking a job alongside his brother Tyree at the Houston Shoe Hospital; in the years that followed he also worked at Westheimer Furniture Company, Shell Oil Company, Dixon Gun Plant, and Brae Burn Country Club, where he developed his lifelong affinity for the game of golf; after retiring from Brae Burn in 1971, he continued to work part-time at several local country clubs for many years; and WHEREAS, In addition to his love of golf, this longtime Mason was also an avid gardener, and his green thumb was the envy of his fellow horticulturists; and WHEREAS, For 66 years, he enjoyed the love and companionship of his beloved wife, Georgia Patterson Conner, with whom he raised four children; he drew additional support from his community of worship at Trinity East United Methodist Church, and over the years served the congregation in many capacities, including collection steward and trustee; and WHEREAS, Although his death has brought great sorrow to his loved ones, Mr. Conner has left behind many fond memories that those fortunate enough to have known him will forever treasure; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Hugh Lee Conner and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Georgia P. Conner; to his children, Donald Richard Conner, Nelda Conner Lewis, and Sandra Conner Tucker and her husband, Henry; to his grandchildren, Ronda, Ronald, Renel, Tamelyn, Kaylen, Leslie, and Donita; to his four great-grandchildren; to his siblings and their spouses, Sylvester and Bernice Conner, Charles and Clarice Conner, Willie B. Phelps, Velia Wright, and Elurd Devenport; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Hugh Lee Conner.
