R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to a close with the passing of Joe V. Alderete, Sr., of San Antonio, on April 29, 2006, at the age of 96; and WHEREAS, Born in Seguin in 1910, Mr. Alderete was raised in the Alamo City and enjoyed a 47-year career with Missouri Pacific Railroad; his outstanding tenure with the company was interrupted only by a four-year tour of duty with the Army during World War II, when he served in the Aleutian Islands and Germany; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan's greatest joy was his family, to whom he was deeply devoted and helped in whatever way he could, including assisting his son, Joseph V. Alderete, Jr., in his successful bid for the city council; an avid bingo and poker player, Mr. Alderete drew great pleasure from holidays, Sunday visits, and trips with his children to Las Vegas and Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Joe Alderete will long remember his zest for life and his enduring love of his family, his community, and his country; although he will be sorely missed, his legacy will be treasured by those whose lives he blessed with his kindness, warmth, and strength; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe V. Alderete, Sr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Victoria V. Alderete; to his children, Joe V. Alderete, Jr., and his wife, Chris, Arthur V. Alderete, Gloria Alderete Segovia and her husband, Rudy, and Alvin V. Alderete; to his 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; to his sister, Delfina "Sweety" Rosales; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe V.
